Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born to a musical family on 9 August 1963 at Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel superstar Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. and the cousin of singer Dionne Warwick.
